Lower Keys, Middle Keys and Florida Upper Keys

The Florida Keys are a group of Islands at the southern most point of the United States of America on the East Coast. The trip to Florida Keys is as rewarding as the destination, experiencing the transition from mainland Atlantic coastal Florida to the laid back ambiance of the subtropical Gulf of Mexico. Linked together by the 120 mile long Overseas Highway, the islands of the Florida Keys offer numerous lodging options, from quaint bed and breakfasts in historic Key West to modern resorts right on the ocean. Today, the islands of Florida Keys offers some of the best fishing and sport diving anywhere in the world.

The Florida Keys remains the most famous and most visited archipelagos in the world!

The three hour drive through the Florida Keys is surely America's most unique motor journey. No other place in America combines the scenic ocean views of the Overseas Highway with a local community that is proud to show off its history and natural wonders.

The upper Keys have some of nature's most spectacular scenic views of the underwater. For scuba divers and snorkelers, The John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park allows the chance to swim along with many species of fish as well as many richly hued types of coral. The park is combined with the adjacent Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary, covering hundreds of nautical square miles of pristine waters.

The Lower Keys begin where the Florida Keys island chain takes a graceful westerly turn toward the sunset, shortly after the famous Seven Mile Bridge. It is a quiet region of small resorts, restaurants, untrammeled wildernesses and rich history.

Key Largo

Key Largo, the northernmost island of the Florida Keys island chain, is sandwiched between the watery wilderness of the Everglades to the west and the fish covered coral formations of North America’s only living coral barrier reef to the east. Largo means "long" in Spanish and Key Largo is the longest of the Florida Keys. Key Largo’s proximity to the Everglades makes it a premier destination for kayakers, birders and other eco tourists. Key Largo is also the home of the Spiegel Grove, the largest vessel ever intentionally sunk as an artificial reef.

Islamorada

For those who prefer to catch fish instead of merely watching them, Islamorada, about 20 miles south of Key Largo, offers great fishing opportunities, including fishing charter boats. Game fishing in the Keys is among the most popular activities for anglers who wish to put up a fight with a marlin that can last several hours.

Key West

This tropical paradise is situated at the southernmost point of the United States, hence it's nickname "The Southernmost Point." Unlike other beach towns, Key West's waters are a clear blue, inspiring vacationers to spend time on the sea. You won't be at a loss for water sports.

Big Pine Key

Big Pine Key, at mile marker 33, is the main shopping hub of the Lower Keys. Yet, if you prefer solitude, you need only turn onto one of its lovely side roads. Explore the National Key Deer Refuge, a large expanse of mostly undeveloped pine lands where the diminutive Key Deer live. If you’re looking for an off shore adventure, Big Pine is also the jumping off point for numerous snorkeling and dive charters to Looe Key reef.

The weather in the Florida Keys is great all year round. Temperatures here rarely drop into the upper 60s and usually stays well into the 70s and 80s in the winter months.
